I am an avid sports fan - I am obsessed with football and hockey, will read baseball or rugby, but Mixed Martial Arts is not really a sport that I follow. And after reading it, I've learned that a great book, is a great book (especially a sports romance). While Miss Niles gives you a taste of the MMA world, it doesn't crowd the great storyline.

Book Description:
Whether you are an MMA fan or not, this best friends to lover romance is a sweet and sexy read!

As I mentioned above, I'm not a MMA fan, but I am a fan of sports romance because I love the drive of the hero and the heroine that manages to steal his heart. I was excited about this book because I love the best friends to lovers tropes (one of my favorites) and this book didn't disappoint.

The battered hero, Tommy "Lightning" Sparks is wonderfully written and although he's "one of those" athletes that indulges in all of the extras that his past fame has handed him, he is really a likable hero. After living the life of luxury in the spotlight, Tommy gives it all up when someone threatens to hurt his best gal-pal of 23-years. I love the caring, close friendship that the two share and love the moment when he realizes that he is attracted to his BFF.

The heroine, Julie Rogers is equally as well written. From the moment she steps on the scene, the reader can feel for Julie and her messy situation of having a strong attraction to Tommy, who only clearly thinks of her as a friend. The ache that Julie feels literally jumps off the page.

The plot is great and the characters are so life-like. Miss Niles nails the athlete persona and the heroine that loves him. This is a great read that has you rooting for the couple to finally get together from the first chapter. The sexual tension is sizzling, but the story is really sweet.

This is Book 2 in the Extreme Novel series. I haven't read Book 1, but I have tracked it down at Amazon as I really enjoyed the book, the writing and the characters. I'm a new fan of Abby Niles! I would give this book four stars!

About the Book:
Talk about kicking a fighter while he’s down.
Former Middleweight champion and confirmed bachelor Tommy “Lightning” Sparks has lost it all: his belt, his career, and now his home. After the devastating fire, he moves in with his drama-free best friend, Julie. One encounter changes everything and Julie is no longer the girl he’s spent his life protecting but a desirable woman he wants to take to his bed. Knowing his reputation, he’s determined to protect Julie more than ever—from himself.
Veterinarian Julie Rogers has been in love with Tommy since she was ten, but would love to get over the man. She’s quiet nights at home and a glass of wine. He’s clubbing all night and shots of tequila. As friends they work great. As a couple? No way in hell. She just can’t get her heart to agree. When she starts spending time with another fighter, the man who’s always treated her like a sister is suddenly not being very brotherly and enflames her body like never before.
Can two childhood friends make a relationship work, or will they lose everything because they stopped FIGHTING LOVE.
