Review: Michelle McLean's A Bandit's Betrayed Heart

Title: A Bandit’s Betrayed Heart
Genre: Romance
Author: Michelle McLean
Publisher: Entangled Scandalous
Pages: 171
Language: English
Format: Ebook

I will admit that when it comes to Historical Romance, I am no expert. I just recently started to read them and am still learning the ins and outs of the genre. As a history buff and a romance novel lover, I thought that I would give the genre a try. I've been split right down the middle 50/50 - some I like and others I find are just too descriptive and put me to sleep. Miss McLean's falls in the category that I like - actually I really liked.

Book Description:
Breaks the Historical Romance novel mold with a saucy heroine fighting for the love of her wounded hero.

In my quest to branch out to other romance genres, the handful of Historical Romance novels that I've read have been super heavy on description and the genre lends to a softer heroine. "A Bandit's Betrayed Heart" is neither of those things. The description is so well written that I didn't find myself skipping through passages bored out of my mind. It was active and interesting. Miss McLean's writing voice is a wonderful read.

The characters are well-developed and I just loved the heroine Lucy Richardson. She was spunky, saucy and just a strong kick-butt woman that refused to back down from what she wanted. I also loved how she never gave up on the love that she shared with the hero, despite him doing everything in his power to send her away. I would put her in a category with Scarlet O'Hara as a strong lead, although she's not as arrogant. As for the hero, Finn Taggart, I liked his character but he irked me just a little as he was almost too selfless with his tortured past.

The historical world that was created was something to get lost in. I didn't feel that I was reading the description, I was experiencing the description. As mentioned, the writing was absolutely sensational and because of this, I believe that she pulled of a borderline self-deprecating hero and pain in the butt heroine.  The twists and turns were believable and at times caught me off guard. This was a solid read that I would strongly recommend.

This book is the third of the Blood Blade Sisters Novels and although I haven't read the others, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It can be considered a stand alone as I really didn't feel that I had missed anything by not reading the first two books. However, I am a fan and will be reading the first two books in the near future.

I would give this book 4.5 stars. I loved the writing, the plot, the setting and the larger-than-life characters.

Book Description:

Not your typical Southern belle…
Lucy Richardson’s bandit sisters may have taught her to sling a gun and pick a stubborn lock, but nothing prepared her for the agony of her first heartbreak. Her sisters taught her to fight like hell for what she wants… and she wants Finn.

Not your proper Southern gentleman…
Finn Taggart is bad news. His dark and tortured past always catches up to him, and Lucy deserves better than to be tainted by his touch. He couldn’t have her years ago, and he can’t have her now, no matter how enticing she is. If only he can convince her of that before the danger that follows him brings them both down.

Not your classic love story…
Danger doesn’t exactly scare a girl like Lucy, and she knows how to use all kinds of weapons… including her feminine wiles. Finn doesn’t stand a chance. And if they need backup… the Blood Blade Sisters are never far away…
