Interview: Tracy March's A Shot of Red

We are in for a treat today as Tracy March stopped by Romance for Every World to answer a few questions. Tracy's new book, A Shot of Red was released April 21, 2014 by Entangled Publishing.

Where do you get your ideas?
TM: My ideas often come from my travels. I’m inspired when I visit new places. I get a feel for the setting, watch the people, experience the culture (every little place has one), and then decide what characters would fit there and what their stories might be. Believe it or not, sometimes changes in weather in these places really stir up new ideas.
Do you create the characters first and then come up with the plot, or vice versa?
TM: Most of the time the plot comes first unless it’s a series where a main character for the next book appears as a secondary character in the one I’m writing.
Who is currently on your Kindle?
TM: I’m reading The Descent, the last book in The Taker trilogy by the awesome Alma Katsu. She combines historical and romantic elements with fantasy and suspense to tell an amazing story of love and loss, betrayal and redemption. I’m a huge fan.
Why did you begin writing?
TM: I’ve always loved reading mysteries and romantic suspense. The more I read, the more I wondered if I could create a puzzle that readers would enjoy trying to solve, and a satisfying story to go along with it. So I started studying the craft of writing and then got busy working on a manuscript.
What is your favorite book that you wrote?
TM: I write in two romance subgenres—contemporary and suspense—so it’s hard to compare those books. I have a soft spot for all of my books, but my favorite contemporary romance I’ve written is The Practice Proposal. It’s the first in my Suddenly Smitten sweet romance series, and it was an RT Book Reviews Top Pick which makes me love it even more! J
As for my romantic suspense novels, A Shot of Red narrowly edges Girl Three only because of the international setting. It was awesome writing about Switzerland for months!
Which character that you created do you most connect with?
TM: I’m a big baseball fan and I totally connect with my hero Cole Collins, the pro baseball player whose love story is told in The Practice Proposal. I’m so thrilled that I could help him find his happily ever after.
What’s next for you?
TM: I’m finishing up the final book in my Suddenly Smitten sweet contemporary romance series that will come out later this year. It follows the first two in the series, The Practice Proposal and Tempted in the Tropics—both RT Book Reviews Top Picks—and features sexy Caribbean resort tycoon Trent Hawthorne who’s looking for love in tropical places.
Thanks so much for stopping by Tracy!
