Today is the first of the three reviews on the blog for the second installment of the New Adult series, Sex on the Beach. I absolutely loved this series. When I first heard about the novella series, written by three very different authors, I was skeptical that a) it would be cohesive, b) that I would enjoy all three books, and c) I'd want to read more on the characters. I was wrong. After reading the first installment, I was hooked on all of the characters from all three of the books. It's always a difficult thing to follow up with another book, let alone another novella series, that is as good as the first ones, and the authors of Sex on the Beach novellas have done it. I thoroughly enjoyed all three books.
REVIEW of LOSING US by Jen McLaughlin
As I mentioned, this is the first of the three, and my favorite. I am huge fan of Jen McLaughlin. She's on my auto-buy list and I devour her books no matter what genre she's writing in.
I loved the heroine, singing star, Mackenzie Forbes and her rough around the edges bartender, Austin Murphy. In the first novella, a secret from Austin's past nearly costs him Mackenzie, but she forgives him and moves past. In the second book, Austin's dark secret pushes Mackenzie away from him. Mackenzie is a very likable and realistic heroine. She's tough, but also shows a wide range of emotions to make her a very believable character. In spite of Austin's borderline dark hero arc, he is a good guy at heart (and smoking hot).

The writing is well crafted and the book is a breeze to get through. This one of those books that you open, get lost and look up at the clock and can't believe how much time has passed. You know it's late, but you just have to see how it all ends. I loved the book. This is an emotional, sexy and heart-warming read. It gets five sparkling stars from me.
